About:
Growing up in Los Angeles, I was exposed to many different cultures, ideologies, and socio-economic issues that have fueled my creative exploration. Above all, my art seeks to question what I have been told and how I perceive the world. This painting is inspired by the life of John Lewis. More specifically, it is inspired by his final essay "Together, You Can Redeem the Soul of Our Nation", which was published on the day of his funeral. In this essay he reflects on his life experiences and the current state of our country with a hopeful and optimistic voice. He urges us to study history and learn from the past so that we can grow beyond this time of hate, violence, and division by engaging in our democratic process. I cannot put into words how important this essay is, so I urge everyone to please read it. In the spirit of John Lewis, will donate all of my proceeds from this painting and print release to the American Civil Liberties Union.
