Shplinton’s graphic style often belies a deeper symbolism in his work. The original compositions in this series were inspired by his friends’ tattoo art, but Shplinton’s technique and motivation add another layer and gravity to the art. Here are his comments on Don’t Die:
“Don't Die is about being drawn to the flame, in the same way moths are. We, as people, are often drawn to things that are both beautiful and harmful. The triangle pointillism is a reference to us all as individuals and the coming together to form the moth symbolizes the feelings we all share.”
